Pisgah roundabout is 11 weeks past its listed finish date; Old Floyd Road bridge work set to end Jan. 6 and will close Church Street at two intersections

Cobb DOT's project page still shows Aug. 19, 2026 as the finish date for the South Gordon Road roundabout. The county has posted no new date and no reason for the delay.

Cobb County's transportation department still lists Aug. 19, 2026 as the finish date for a new roundabout at South Gordon Road and Pisgah Road, according to the county's "Transportation Project Updates" page as read Nov. 4. That date passed about 11 weeks ago, and the county has posted no new one.

The same page says the county expects to finish widening the Old Floyd Road bridge at Veterans Memorial Highway on Jan. 6, 2027, and that "The project will also close Church Street at the intersections with Front Street and Veterans Memorial Highway."

South Gordon Road at Pisgah Road (Project B2310)

The page lists this as a 2022 SPLOST project in "Dist 4." It adds a roundabout and raised median where South Gordon Road meets Pisgah Road and Crossing Creek Point. It also includes pedestrian improvements and street lighting.

The page says construction is "scheduled to be complete August 19, 2026." But the county's October work forecast for the project still lists storm drain installation, widening, curb and gutter, sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveways and a "Phase 3 Traffic Shift." The county has not posted a revised completion date or a reason for the delay.

Old Floyd Road bridge (Project X2329)

The page lists this project under the 2016 SPLOST, in "Dist 4." The work widens the Old Floyd Road bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway to the east. It also adds dedicated right-turn lanes on westbound Veterans Memorial Highway (US 78) at Old Floyd Road and on westbound Fontaine Road at Old Floyd Road.

The county's October forecast lists continued pile driving and shoring at bents 2 and 3, and demolition of the old wing walls at bents 1 and 4. According to the page, lane closures and delays are possible Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The page does not say when the two Church Street closures will begin. A January 2025 county notice called the road "Church Street in Mableton." That notice covered a three-day closure for railroad inspections. Church Street was shut from Front Street to Veterans Memorial Highway, and drivers were detoured to Old Floyd Road. The county's wording does not settle whether the street is inside Mableton's city limits, and Hello Mableton has not confirmed that.

East-West Connector

The county lists the East-West Connector improvements at Fontaine Road and Cooper Lake Road (Project B2308, Dist 4) as "substantially complete." The only October work the county lists is punch-list items. The project lengthens the westbound turn lanes at both intersections.

What we don't know yet

The county page does not say:

  • when the South Gordon/Pisgah roundabout will now be finished, or why it slipped;
  • when Church Street will close at either intersection;
  • what either project costs.

Hello Mableton plans to send these questions in writing to the Cobb DOT project managers named on the page: Jenny Lee for the roundabout and Tim O'Hara for the Old Floyd Road bridge. We will update this story if they reply.
