The Mableton City Council will not hold hearings Monday on the 98-home rezoning at Veterans Memorial Highway and Queen Mill Road or on the 142-foot telecommunications tower proposed for Cityview Drive SW. Draft minutes of the Oct. 28 council meeting show the council voted 6-0 to move both public hearings to Nov. 23.

If you want to speak for or against either project, plan for Nov. 23 or later, not Monday's Nov. 9 meeting.

What the minutes show

The rezoning, REZ 2026-010, is a request from David Pearson Communities to rezone 15.58 acres in District 3 to RM-8 for 98 attached and detached homes. The addresses are 922 Veterans Memorial Hwy, 0 Queen Mill Road and 6170 Queen Mill Road. The agenda note said the applicant wanted a deferral "to the November 9, 2026, hearing." According to the minutes, Mayor Michael Owens asked which date the applicant meant, and staff confirmed it was Nov. 23. District 3 Councilmember Keisha Jeffcoat moved to defer to Nov. 23, Councilmember Ron Davis seconded, and the motion passed 6-0.

The tower case, SLUP 2026-005, is a request for a special land use permit from Municipal Communications LLC. It would put a 142-foot monopole tower on a 2,215-square-foot leased site at 7377 Cityview Drive SW in District 2. The council first voted 6-0 to defer it to Nov. 9. Later in the meeting, City Attorney Walker-Ashby told the council the date had been "incorrectly recorded as Nov 9" and asked for a new vote at staff's request. The council reconsidered and voted 6-0 to move it to Nov. 23. District 2 Councilmember Michael McNeely is listed as absent.

These minutes are still a draft. Approval of the Oct. 28 minutes is on Monday's consent agenda.

What is on Monday's agenda

The Nov. 9 meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside EpiCenter, and its agenda lists neither case. The public hearings are a second read on a different David Pearson Communities rezoning along Old Alabama Road (REZ-2026-004) and two requests for alcohol licenses and distance waivers for stores on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission's Dec. 3 agenda lists both cases under "Unfinished Business." That meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at 5656 Mableton Parkway. The same agenda includes approval of minutes from the commission's Nov. 5 public hearing.

What is unknown

Hello Mableton has not found minutes, an action summary or video showing what the Planning Commission did with either case on Nov. 5. It is also unclear why both cases are on the commission's Dec. 3 agenda, since that date is after the council's Nov. 23 date. The commission may have continued them, but that has not been confirmed. If the commission still has the cases on Dec. 3, the council hearing could slip past Nov. 23. Check the Nov. 23 agenda when the city posts it.
